If you have ever read a book on medicinal herbs, and specifically about Arnica, you may have read that A. montana is not particularly safe to eat. This was (and, to a degree, still is) my original understanding of the herb.
The health benefits of A. montana are derived from sesquiterpene lactones, a class of chemical compounds commonly found in many plants throughout the world. Previously in our research on the health benefits of Arnica montana, we mentioned the chemical Helenalin.
